Krdc Gets Some Love from Google's Summer of Code
Submitted by chadm on Mon, 2007-04-16 21:46. Blogs | krdcI'm excited to see that a Krdc proposal was accepted by Google for this years Summer of Code. It's a program drastically in need of some love.
Krdc has remained unchanged for as long as I can remember, and while it does "work", you have to know what you are doing. It's "Browse" functionality is completely broken and has never worked for me. I also can't get it to connect using a computer name, only an IP address. Since my desktop computers all have static IP addresses that is manageable, but it's far from intuitive for a newcomer.
In fact, the only way I can connect to my desktop is not only knowing the IP address, but also the protocol name. For example, I have to type "vnc://192.168.1.5" or "rdp://192.168.1.5". RDP is the Windows Remote Desktop protocol in case you need to access one and don't have VNC installed on it.
Hopefully the Summer of Code project can bring a necessary, but languishing, Krdc project in line with the capability and usability level the rest of KDE project.
